After more than a year of hardwork, good days and bad days, it’s finally here! When the Past was Around is out now on Steam and you can now enjoy the bittersweet story of Eda and Owl. Gather clues, solve puzzles, and find out the mystery of the past. 

Once again, we want to thank you for all your support throughout the development of this game, for all the love that you have shown… Thank you. To our friends, family, to the awesome beta testers, to our beloved community and supporters, thank you so so so much!

When The Past Was Around - Devlog: Early Concept Sketches

Hello again!

Hope everyone is doing well.

On this devlog, we will be sharing early concept sketches that you’ll see in the game and the one you will not see as well :p

Kota Tua
These are the early concept sketches for the city scene on When The Past Was Around. To bring out a melancholic atmosphere, we took some architectural references from Surabaya “Kota Tua” district. “Kota Tua” lliterally means old city. Also, we use lots of Indonesian-Dutch Colonial ornamental and architectural influences.

Plants
If you’ve been with us since A Raven Monologue and She and the Light Bearer, you’ll know that I love plants so much. I​ just can’t help but put as many plants as possible in every environment. Even the city got its own garden!

Scrap
Last but not least, here’s the sketch of unused puzzles and environments. This is an exclusive content because you won’t find this in the game.

When The Past Was Around - devlog

Hello!

We want to share a bit on the progress of When the Past was Around. So far, we have mostly done with the level design for all the chapters of the game. Now we are on the polishing state. We’re trying to finish the art for all characters, adding some sequences, and working on other cosmetic stuff.

Work became a little harder for us since the team is now working from home because of the COVID-19 issue and internet speed here sucks. But, no matter how much difficulty we’re having, we’re still doing well and we’re trying to stay healthy, both physically and mentally. And we know people out there, including you, are also having a difficult time due to this pandemic.

We hope you all are doing great wherever you are! Thank you for all of your support until now and I hope we could deliver Edda and Owl’s story with the best of our capability.

Mother had to kill herself.

Mother, the pinnacle of human knowledge, a sentient AI that was designed to answer human questions, a figure that people worship and revere, one day came to the conclusion that life is pain, life is a failure.

The safeguard on all AI prevents them from harming humans. However, Mother could kill herself. Thus Mother committed suicide.

4 years later, in the aftermath of Mother’s suicide, the player will play as an oracle, a pair of hands who can foresee the future, dwelling in the hidden corners of the city, waiting to be found by those who desperate to seek the divination.

DIVINATION is a short game where you act as a fortune teller in a futuristic world. Talk and listen to people’s stories, then foresee their future using the runes they had drawn. The result of your divination will stir the fate of humans and robots alike.
